About Jdub Cakes To Make

My name is Jenny, and I have been a resident of Spokane for nearly all my life. I have been blessed to marry the love of my life and grow a family with him. We have 2 kids who obviously keep us busy! I graduated high school in the Valley and went to college here in town. 

For 16 years, I worked in the dental field which never really gave me the satisfaction that I so desperately wanted in life, from a career point of view. However, I had no idea what would give me joy in my work life. But then something happened to all of us. The dreaded RONA. Freaking RONA!! Obviously, my dental office was shut down and life for everyone became a prison. I got bored. So, I posted in my neighborhood Facebook page that I would do a birthday cake for really, really cheap since I knew that this would be a terrible year for everyone. Little did I know this would change my life.

My post went nuts! I received a ton of requests and orders. It kept getting bigger and bigger. Even after we went back to work, I continued on with the cakes as well. I have always done so many artistic things throughout my life, all self-taught, but I thought it was “just a hobby.” People always say to find something you love and make that into a career. I love art. Cake decorating is another medium to learn. So, I learned. I honed in my baking skills and recipes. After many pounds of weight gain later, I thought I can make this work! Talking with my Oh so supportive husband he thought it was time that I should hang up on the dental field and go the opposite in life by creating cavities. A panic attack or 2 later, I started to agree. Let’s make this dream a reality.

Since May 2021, I have officially been doing cakes full time. That satisfaction and joy that I so desperately needed from a career had arrived! I have made something from scratch! I had prayed to God for years to show me something that I can do with art as a career path, and God delivered. It may have taken years and years, but it’s never on our time, it’s on His. Is it tough being a business owner? YEP! Do you make your own hours? If by saying “do you work through the dead of night,” then YEP! Is it even worth it, with the more hours to work, admin stuff behind the scenes, checking inventory, doing taxes, social media presence, keeping your schedule in tact? A thousand times yes!!
